The nation may be focussing on the World Cup, but it is the ladies’ A, B and C cups we’re most interested in!
We’re asking women to donate their old bras to help kids living in poverty in Rio de Janeiro (host city of the 2014 World Cup).
What’s more, Bra Bank will accept Bras in any condition, meaning underwear that might otherwise have gone to landfill can now help to change young people’s lives.
The collected bras will be recycled raising £1 per kilo and donations will be accepted until 14th July 2014.
Cash raised goes to our ‘Little Learners’ education project. The scheme provides teachers to help children living in Parada de Lucas – one of Rio’s poorest favelas (or slums). The impoverished community in which Little Learners is based is under the control of heavily armed teen gang members, and young people here are at constant risk of becoming involved in the armed drugs.
Neuza Nascimento, runs Little Learners and says: “Parada de Lucas is an impoverished community and, because of the dominant armed drugs trade, our children often lose their innocence so young. Little Learners gives youngsters the opportunity to get an education, which we believe is the best route out of poverty and away from the gangs. We aim to develop and stimulate the abilities of these kids exposed to the risk of social violence, through activities involving culture, leisure and citizenship. It has been incredibly successful so far, with just 7 of the 900 children who have participated ending up as gang members.”
We know there are thousands of unwanted bras that women have outgrown or got bored of, and we want to put them to good use.
By donating an old bra, people can help others in a practical way & know that after the important support the bra has given them, it can go on to help someone else.
-Please wash your bras before sending them to us.
-All types, sizes and styles welcomed but please no pants.
-We'll be accepting bras until 14th July 2014 at any of the venues to the left, you can also post your bras to any of these addresses.
